Background of the Study
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform business operations by optimizing processes, improving decision-making, and enhancing customer service. In the logistics industry, AI is being used to optimize supply chain operations, improve route planning, enhance inventory management, and predict customer demand (Sani et al., 2023). In Taraba State, logistics companies are beginning to explore the benefits of AI, but the adoption rate remains relatively low due to factors such as cost, lack of expertise, and limited access to technology.

This study aims to appraise the extent of AI adoption in the logistics sector in Taraba State, focusing on its impact on operational efficiency, cost savings, and service delivery. Understanding the challenges and benefits of AI adoption in this sector will provide valuable insights for logistics companies considering the integration of AI in their operations.

Statement of the Problem
While AI has the potential to revolutionize business operations in the logistics sector, the adoption rate in Taraba State remains slow. Many logistics companies face challenges such as high implementation costs, lack of technical skills, and resistance to change. This study seeks to evaluate the extent to which AI has been adopted by logistics companies in Taraba State and the challenges they face in implementing AI solutions.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of AI adoption on the efficiency of logistics companies in Taraba State.
  2. To identify the challenges faced by logistics companies in Taraba State when adopting AI technologies.
  3. To recommend strategies to enhance the adoption and utilization of AI in logistics companies in Taraba State.

Research Questions

  1. How has the adoption of AI impacted the operational efficiency of logistics companies in Taraba State?
  2. What challenges do logistics companies face in adopting AI in their operations?
  3. What strategies can be implemented to enhance the adoption of AI in logistics companies in Taraba State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: The adoption of AI does not significantly improve the operational efficiency of logistics companies in Taraba State.
  2. H0: High implementation costs do not significantly hinder the adoption of AI by logistics companies in Taraba State.
  3. H0: The lack of technical skills does not significantly affect the successful adoption of AI in logistics companies in Taraba State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on logistics companies in Taraba State. Limitations include the potential reluctance of companies to disclose information related to AI adoption and the possibility of limited access to companies that have not yet implemented AI.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI): The simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think, learn, and make decisions.
  2. Logistics Companies: Businesses that provide services related to the transportation, warehousing, and distribution of goods.
